Manipur Violence Updates: Curfew Imposed in Jiribam

Manipur Violence: After 11 militants killed in Jiribam district , the District Administration has imposed a curfew in the region on Monday. As Kuki- Zo council asked for a ‘ Total Shutdown’ to protest the encounter of 11 suspected militants.

The Government agencies involved in maintaining Law and order are exempted in the curfew whereas special Government agencies/functionaries and security forces involved in maintaining law and order and other essential services would be exempt from the curfew. Written permission will also be required in case of emergencies, marriages, funerals, etc.

The Kuki-Zo Council claimed that the deceased were “village volunteers” and announced a complete shutdown from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesday “out of respect for the victims and to express our collective grief and solidarity with those who were brutally shot dead”. The council also asked for a justice to those who were shot dead by The CRPF.

11 suspected militants were killed who were dressed in military uniform as a disguise who were carrying modern weapons fired the police station just near by CRPF camp. Following this small violence were reported from multiple locations in Imphal valley.

Manipur on fire since  May  Manipur one of the seven sisters of north eastern states is burning since May 3 last year when a High court order asked the Government to grant the status of  schedules Tribes( ST) to Hindus Meitei. this resulted a clash between the All  Tribals Students Union (ATSU) and members of Meitei Community.

Two days later, armed militants killed a Meitei woman farmer in a paddy field in Bishnupur district of Imphal Valley. On November 11, three people, including a Naga, were injured in militant attacks in Imphal East and Bishnupur district
